Seaweed - the greatest untapped resource
Climate-Smart Agriculture is an approach to farming to adapt to climate change and increase productivity while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Ecosystem and land management are important for adaptation and climate management.
Currently, seaweed extracts are widely used as plant biostimulants, which aim to promote plant growth, enhance abiotic stress tolerance, improve nutrient uptake and include antioxidant properties.
According to the United Nations Global Compact seaweed is the greatest untapped resource we have on this planet. It has the potential to address a lot of the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals and connects the land and the ocean in a circular and regenerative way.
Supports climate-smart agriculture – every ton of seaweed we harvest has absorbed 362 kg of CO2 and pulls 4.18 kg of nitrogen and 0.26 kg of phosphorus out of the ocean for a healthier marine ecosystem. Every time we harvest, these seaweed beds regrow and pull down carbon once again.
Seaweed is a regenerative resource – a sustainable supply without removing the planet’s precious resources, At Acadian Plant Health, the longevity of our raw materials supply is important to us, because it ensures we can supply the agricultural industry in a sustainable way. We carefully oversee every step of our raw material harvest to ensure a healthy habitat for the animals and other marine plants. In fact, we are one of the only seaweed companies that can guarantee a supply of high-quality products while doing so sustainably.
Carbon cycling – our seaweed captures atmospheric carbon, which is then processed to extract the natural bioactive compounds to apply to the crop. Once applied the plant and root biomass increases, increasing soil organic carbon, which in turn creates a healthier plant that is increasing photosynthetic potential. Another drawdown of atmospheric carbon.
